Normandy has so much to offer. Its beautiful countryside is filled with orchards and dairy cows. Its stunning seaside is outlined with breath-taking cliffs. Its picturesque villages host wonderful farmers’ markets and are adorned with the loveliest architecture. And last but not least, the region has some of the most elegant 18th century chateaux.
Château la Chenevière is ideally located between the charming town of Bayeux with its museums and cathedral and the historic landing beaches and American cemetery. It is walking distance from the harbour of Port-en-Bessin, which is known for scallops fishing.
The chateau hotel is located in the centre of the region, which means that travellers can go on a daytrip to explore Le Pays d’Auge and la côte fleurie with its romantic towns of Trouville and Honfleur, known to have inspired the Impressionists painters. Le Pays d’Auge is also famous for producing local cheeses, like the famous Camembert, and for making cider and Calvados. The chic coastal town of Deauville hosts the American film festival each year in September and welcomes international movie stars.
The famous Mont Saint Michel sits on the other side of Château la Chenevière, on the west side of Normandy. Travellers can cross the bay by foot, whilst admiring the outstanding panoramic landscapes, which is an unforgettable experience!
The concierge and reception team at château la Chenevière is always happy to assist its guests in organising their stay in Normandy, by either arranging private guided tours for them or simply by recommending places to visit or booking restaurants.
A Normandy hotel of charm and history
In the 18th century, Château la Chenevière was an old hemp farmhouse as well as its owner’s manor country-house. This changed in World War II, when the German officers took over and turned it into their telecommunications headquarters.
After the war, la Chenevière was given back to its former owners. They sold it to Mr and Mrs Dicker in 1988, who remodelled it into the boutique chateau hotel it is today.
The 29 guest rooms and suites are all decorated differently with antique furniture and prestigious fabrics and wallpapers. The chateau provides modern comfort to its guests with free Wi-fi, AC and flat screen TVs in each room. Bathrooms all either have jacuzzi or walk-in showers with deluxe amenities, like luxury French brand Diptyque products. Larger suites all have their own private courtyards, patios or balconies as to fully enjoy the peace and quiet of the chateau hotel’s garden.
Château la Chenevière is nestled in a 12-hectare ground which includes 2-hectare ground of walled garden. The English Garden has an impressive collection of exotic and centennial trees, as well as a permaculture vegetable garden, a flower garden and its own beehives.
The outdoor heated swimming pool is open during Spring and Summer for guests to enjoy during the warmer days. The chateau hotel also has a tennis court, bicycles and a fitness centre.
Château la Chenevière isn’t just the ideal base to visit Normandy but it’s also the perfect place to unwind and relax.
A gourmet journey in a chateau hotel in Normandy
The award-wining chateau hotel has two restaurants on site, which supply themselves with fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs grown in the five-star hotel’s vegetable garden. Both head chefs find it important to work closely together with local farmers, out of respect for cultural traditions as well as for the environment.
For a fine-dining experience, guests can enjoy an exquisite dinner at restaurant Le Botaniste, located in the chateau’s ground floor.
The dining room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden’s illuminated trees during the evening. The interior decoration of the dining room evokes nature. Stunning herbarium prints adorn the walls, while golden foliage wall lamps light up the room.
The seasonal menu can be paired with a bottle of one of the many high-end wines from the chateau’s cellar. Le Botaniste’s bar offers creative and refreshing cocktails made with herbs from the garden and honey from the resident beehives. The chateau’s terrace is a perfect place to enjoy a cocktail during a sunny afternoon.
The second restaurant, le Petit Jardin, is located in the chateau’s old conservatory right next to the swimming pool. Its seasonal menu offers a casual bistro cuisine for lunch and dinner, which can be paired with local beers and natural wines.
Breakfast is served daily in the Botaniste restaurant as a buffet. Guests can indulge in local pastries, fresh breads and homemade jams. Savoury options are also available at the buffet or via room service.
The entire team of Château la Chenevière hopes to welcome you soon at the luxury chateau hotel in Normandy!
